At Pleasant Prairie Family Dental, we treat Periodontal Disease in the least invasive and most cost effective manner. This is often accomplished by non-surgical periodontal treatment.
Scaling and Root Planning (Deep Cleanings)
The initial stage of treatment is done by doing a thorough cleaning that includes scaling to remove plaque and calculus beneath the gum line. The root is then planned to smooth the root surface allowing the gum tissue to heal and reattach to the tooth. Local delivery antimicrobials and host modulation may be recommended to help control the growth of bacteria.
Periodontal Maintenance
After the Scaling and Root Planning is completed, a reevaluation of the condition of the gums and bone is necessary. Studies show that most patients who have been affected with periodontal disease will require more frequent maintenance visits than the regular, twice-yearly “cleaning”.
Periodontal Surgery
Non-surgical periodontal treatment does have its limitations. When periodontal health is not achieved, surgery may be indicated to restore periodontal health.
